A Sri Lankan national escapee from a prison in India,
who attempted to secretly disembark on the shores of Thal Deka (Kadawatha), Vennappuwa by an Indian fishing boat, has been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy.
The apprehension has been carried out during a coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and the police, based on information provided by Naval Intelligence.
It has been revealed that the suspect was previously arrested in India in 2021 for involvement in drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the Vennappuwa Police is carrying out further investigations and will proceed with legal action concerning the suspect and the Indian fishing boat, the navy said.
